The topic is still Dahlias for Friends First Friday on March 3rd, but there has been a change in the program speaker. Our original presenter, Mr. Henry Everett, has had a conflict arise and has graciously arranged for an outstanding fellow dahlia grower to take his place.
Mr. John Kreiner, two-term plus past-president and active member of the Atlanta Dahlia Society, will be our speaker . He started growing dahlias in San Antonia, Texas, many years ago where the summers are even more extreme than in north Georgia. Since dahlias have a history of not liking excessive heat, Mr. Kreiner has learned many lessons about growing dahlias very successfully under such conditions and has devoted himself to passing along those lessons so more gardeners in this area can enjoy these lovely flowers in their gardens.
Over the years, he has given presentations to garden clubs, Master Gardener groups and many other organizations. He has written for Old House Gardens, The Dallas News, and has been interviewed by our own Connie Cottingham for the Athens Banner Herald. He has attended multiple national and local dahlia shows and meetings. Along with information about different forms and varieties of the flower and which choices may thrive in our local gardens, be prepared to see photos of beautiful and winning blooms from across the country.
Registrations must be made by February 24. 2017.
