Trees may be at their most beautiful in the winter, when they are stripped down to their basic architecture. But can we know them without their leaves? In this class, students will learn the basics of identifying trees in the winter by learning about twigs, bark, leaf scars, fruits, and tree form. Students will learn to use a hand lens and a simple key for woody plants to identify species. Class time will be divided between classroom exercises and a field trip to the Savannah-Ogeechee Canal. Please dress for the weather.
