Ferns are plagued by misconceptions--no, they don't have flowers or pollen, fruits or seeds--but these are hardly limitations. The diversity and beauty of ferns is astounding! We'll start with a classroom introduction to the terminology, anatomy, and microscopic reproductive biology of ferns. Next we'll head to the field to learn key characters that will help you identify local ferns. Stone Mountain is the perfect place to find both moisture-loving ferns and ferns that thrive in the extreme conditions of rock outcrops--you'll see the fern gamut and, no doubt, a few fern allies too.
