The annual gala showcases extravagant sets, floral decorations and table settings. Guests dine amid the backdrop of the three-story Conservatory filled with hundreds of tropical and semi-tropical plants, Garden pathways, waterfalls and pools. Live music and dancing concludes the evening. Initiated in 1985, the Ball is the premier fundraising event for the Garden, collectively raising more than $3 million for the Garden’s endowment and special projects. Corporate sponsorships are key to the success of the Ball.
The Silent Auction has become an increasingly important part of the Ball. The auction consists of original art, jewelry, vacation homes, tickets to sporting and cultural events, hunting packages, special dinners and other fine items – most of which are donated or acquired by members of the eighty-member Board of Advisors. Held in the Gardenside Room overlooking the International Garden, the Silent Auction bidding begins as guests arrive at the Ball, and it concludes after the seated dinner.
The Friday evening before the Gardens of the World Ball, the Board of Advisors honors the generous corporate sponsors and individual patrons who support the Ball. This special event is held in a private home or other special location.
