Art Opening – Six-Legged Symmetry
August 20, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Margaret Agner is an Athens artist who designs and paints in many mediums, but silk painting is her specialty, and insects have been one of her lifelong interests since 4-H projects when she was a teenager on a dairy farm in Ohio. She paints on silk with dye and makes large wall hangings along with many scarves and sometimes garments.
For this art show, Agner is concentrating on using symmetry, or mirror-imaging of most of the works. Bugs are symmetrical, so she is folding her design paper and the silk in half and trying to design the bugs in this format. She says, “One of the best parts of making mirror image art is unfolding the silk when it finishes the steaming process. I finally get to see what the whole panel will look like.”
Six-Legged Symmetry will be on display Aug. 20-Oct. 8. Agner will host an opening for the show on Aug. 20 from 2-4 p.m. in the Visitor Center Great Room.
