Canning Pickles It’s Kind of a Big Dill

November 16, 2019, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Canning Pickles

$35 General Admission, $31.50 Members

Did you know that canning was invented over 200 years ago during the Napoleonic Wars? Since then, food science and modern appliances have given us the tools to safely preserve our food at home. Join us for a hands-on workshop to learn how to can pickles. Participants will learn about canning processes, equipment, and safety, and then make a jar of pickles using their own produce! Almost any produce can be pickled, but firm vegetables work best (suggestions include cauliflower, broccoli stems, and root crops like carrots and beets). You bring 2-3 cups of veggies, and we’ll provide the rest. You will be able to pick up your jar to take home the following day. This class is geared towards adults but children to ages 16 and up may attend when accompanied by an adult.

Limited to 12 people
