June 13, 2020, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Using Dichotomous Keys – Certificate in Native Plants: Elective

Cost: $50 Member Cost: $45.00

This class will focus on the use of dichotomous keys to identify plants.  After reviewing basic plant structure and terminology, we’ll start with a simple key to common trees, based primarily on vegetative characteristics.  Then, after delving more deeply into the terminology of flowers, inflorescences, and fruits, we’ll practice identifying unknown plants using keys in other floristic manuals. This class will help develop your observational skills and knowledge base of the specialized terminology needed to identify unknown plants. Please note that this class is part of a new program and is located outside of the Athens area.
