Certificate in Native Plants:Elective –

$50 General Registration, $45 Members

The longleaf pine ecosystem represents one of the most diverse habitats in North America. It originally covered approximately 90 million acres of the southeastern US but was reduced to nearly 3 million acres by the middle of the 20th Century. Much work is being done in the region now to bring back this unique forest. In addition to planting trees, many landowners and land managers are working to restore the groundcover layer that is the basis for the incredible diversity that is associated with longleaf. In this course you will be guided through the principles and practices of restoring the groundcover to longleaf systems.

This course consists of three elements: a live, online two-hour program, a self-paced exercise on developing a restoration scenario, and a follow-up, one-hour discussion session.
• Part 1 – Online Class Session (2 hours) 4/24; 9am-11am
• Part 2 – Self-Paced Learning Exercise (1 hour)
• Part 3 – Follow-up Q&A Session (1-hour session) 4/29; 7:00-8:00pm
