Identifying Trees & Shrubs in Winter Certificate in Native Plants – Tifton

January 19, 2019, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Certificate in Native Plants – Tifton: Elective Course

Cost: $50 Member Cost: $45

Thirty-five years-worth of Dr. Hall’s dendrology students have tried to focus on leaf shape for plant identification, PERIOD. Come to find out, we don’t need the leaves for a positive ID! In this hands-on class, students will learn fundamentals of identifying deciduous species in winter by observing twigs, leaf scars, buds, persistent fruits, and bark. Students will use a simple key for woody plants as an aid in identification. Indoor class time will be followed by a trip to the Nature Study Area at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for application of our new skills. Some areas may be wet, so please wear boots.

Please note that this class is part of a new program and is located outside of the Athens area.
