Wild and Whimsical Weaving: A Nature Weaving Experience for Beginners

April 9, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Paula Runyon, artist

Fee: $35

“We do not speak of designing a picture or a concerto, but of designing a house, a city, a bowl, a fabric. But surely these can all be, like a painting or music, works of art.” – Anni Albers

This quote gives us permission to desire beauty in our surroundings. Fabric has always been central to our lives whether as material necessity or for the sentimental value it holds. Fabric is also something that can simply be beautiful, and help to connect us to our natural surroundings. Please consider attending this socially distanced mini-workshop where we will explore our connection to nature through weaving. We will start with a walk through the garden in search of natural elements to use in our designs – a favorite are the late winter textures of grasses and twigs. We will explore a brief history of textiles as the process that gives us fabric, learning the basic weave structures before moving into more creative experimentation. Each participant will be able to work with their own personal hand loom to create a woven work of art for the home. This workshop is geared towards participants of all skill levels and no prior experience is necessary.
