DESCRIPTION:Free \n\n\n\nLeaders rotate among a group of local naturalists and biologists\, featuring guest guides. \n\n\n\nMeet at children’s garden arbor. \n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the Nature Ramblers to learn more about the natural areas\, flora and fauna of the State Botanical Garden while making new friends and enjoying the fresh air. Rambles start with an inspirational reading by a nature writer such as Annie Dillard\, John Muir or Janisse Ray. Ramblers are encouraged to bring their own nature writings or favorite poems and essays to share with the group. This is a ramble\, not a hike; stopping to view interesting plants\, insects\, butterflies and mushrooms\, etc.\, along the way is part of the experience each week. You can join for just one or all sessions. These informal rambles are free\, but donations are accepted in the garden’s donation box in the lobby of the visitor’s center. DESCRIPTION:Ages: 3-5 | $3 per class \n\n\n\n\nRegister Online\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe State Botanical Garden of Georgia education team offers Sweet Pea Club at the Alice H. Richards Children’s Garden every Thursday morning from 10:15-11 a.m. Families join one another for a program of engaging activities in the garden\, which can include songs\, puppets\, stories\, hikes and games. Each week focuses on a different theme\, such as busy bees\, pollination\, decomposers\, all about animals\, plants we eat and more.  \n\n\n\nThe Sweet Pea Club program is an informal way to give young naturalists a better understanding of the importance of our shared earth. This program is designed for children ages 3-5. Please note that this program typically takes place outdoors\, and the location may change depending on the weather conditions. Registration is required for each participating child.

DESCRIPTION:$12 general admission | $10 for members \n\n\n\n\nRegister Online\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince opening in 2019\, the Alice H. Richards Children’s Garden has served as a space for garden visitors of all ages to learn\, grow and explore our natural world. While caring for this garden\, Katie McCollum\, Children’s Garden curator\, has learned some lessons she will share with us about keeping it beautiful and educational for all visitors. \n\n\n\nMcCollum is a graduate of the University of Georgia and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her career has focused on environmental education\, with previous roles at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. She has worked in her current role at the State Botanical Garden since May 2020\, and her position encompasses both horticultural and educational work within the children’s garden. Outside of the garden\, McCollum enjoys reading\, birding\, singing and spending time with family and friends \n\n\n\nThe registration deadline is noon on May 29.

We’ll bring out the bubbly while you enjoy classic lawn games as the sun begins to set. In case of inclement weather\, this event will be relocated to the Visitor Center and Conservatory.

Rambles start with an inspirational reading by a nature writer such as Annie Dillard\, John Muir or Janisse Ray. Ramblers are encouraged to bring their own nature writings or favorite poems and essays to share with the group. This is a ramble\, not a hike; stopping to view interesting plants\, insects\, butterflies and mushrooms\, etc.\, along the way is part of the experience each week. You can join for just one or all sessions. These informal rambles are free\, but donations are accepted in the garden’s donation box in the lobby of the visitor’s center. Richards Children’s Garden every Thursday morning from 10:15-11 a.m. Families join one another for a program of engaging activities in the garden\, which can include songs\, puppets\, stories\, hikes and games. Each week focuses on a different theme\, such as busy bees\, pollination\, decomposers\, all about animals\, plants we eat and more.  \n\n\n\nThe Sweet Pea Club program is an informal way to give young naturalists a better understanding of the importance of our shared earth. This program is designed for children ages 3-5. Please note that this program typically takes place outdoors\, and the location may change depending on the weather conditions. Registration is required for each participating child.

SUMMARY:Native Ferns of North Georgia - Canceled
DESCRIPTION:This class has been canceled.  \n\n\n\nConnie Gray\, native plant specialist\, Georgia Native Plant Society – Athens Chapter \n\n\n\nThis course will focus on the most common and garden-worthy ferns typically found in the Piedmont and mountain regions of Georgia. We will begin with an introduction to the biology and morphology of ferns\, especially those features that will help you identify the different species. We will also look at and compare the habitats where these ferns are found. We will examine each species through a presentation\, some actual examples in pots\, and an outdoor venture to see many of these plants in person in the Dunson Native Flora Garden. Following the field time\, we will examine the samples under magnification when we return indoors. The primary focus of the course is to learn to recognize and appreciate these beautiful and fascinating native plants\, and to encourage participants to incorporate them into their gardens. There will also be a discussion of invasive non-native ferns.

For instance\, we will focus on the importance of maintaining plant and insect pollinator diversity and the ecological factors that may influence this outcome. Among the factors that will be discussed in this course are the roles of disease and pesticides in pollinators’ survival and how these factors could interact with plant species to produce certain outcomes. Please note that this course also provides credit for the Plants & Pollinators Specialization.

SUMMARY:Sunflower Concert Series - The Broken String Band
DESCRIPTION:Purchase Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDue to predicted weather\, the Sunflower Concert featuring the Broken String Band on Tuesday\, June 16\, has been moved indoors to the Conservatory. \n\n\n\nThe Sunflower Concert Series at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia invites the community to enjoy live music amidst the beauty of the garden. Held in the picturesque Flower Garden\, these concerts provide an unforgettable experience. \n\n\n\nGuests are encouraged to bring blankets\, chairs and picnic dinners to savor while enjoying the music. Each ticket includes snacks and beverages. This year\, concerts will feature one band with no opening act. In case of inclement weather\, concerts will be relocated to the Visitor Center and Conservatory. \n\n\n\nThis year\, the garden is excited to offer the Picnic Plaza\, courtesy of Barron’s Rental Center\, on the back patio of the Visitor Center. Arrive early for the concert and relax with your own picnic dinner in the covered seating area. \n\n\n\nSeason passes\, which include tickets to all four concerts\, are $80 for adults and $40 for children ages 5-16. Ticket prices for single concerts are $24 for adults and $12 for children ages 5-16. Children under 5 are admitted free of charge.  \n\n\n\nAdult tickets purchased at the gate will be $26. Friends of the Garden Members receive a 10% discount. \n\n\n\nTickets sold at the gate must be purchased with a card; cash will not be accepted. All ticket prices are subject to additional fees. \n\n\n\nFormed in Athens\, Georgia\, The Broken String Band draws inspiration from the region’s rich musical heritage. This talented group of musicians breathes new life into the folk music tradition\, blending old-time folk\, bluegrass\, and country influences to create a sound that is uniquely their own. Led by their two frontmen\, Sean Stephansen and Taylor Thompson\, whose voices together carry a timeless allure\, the band’s sound is both gripping and authentic.
