SUMMARY:Art Exhibit Closing Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, Aug. 2 for an art exhibit closing reception celebrating the work of Leigh Ellis. The closing reception is from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Visitor Center of the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. Leigh’s work is currently on display in the Visitor Center Alcove and will remain up until Aug. 9.  \n\n\n\nLeigh Ellis has been painting and teaching in the Athens area for 25 years. She held an 8-year position in the Fine Arts Department of Athens Academy teaching painting and drawing\, printmaking and photography. \n\n\n\nLeigh’s art career began 30 years ago in biological illustration\, and she holds a MS degree in biology from the University of Guam. She studied painting and design at the University of Hawaii\, Montana State University and participated in Smithsonian Institute Workshops.  \n\n\n\nHer paintings have been exhibited in juried and private exhibits from Hawaii to Georgia\, including 16 solo exhibits. Leigh’s works have received many awards\, and she is a signature member of the Georgia Watercolor Society. \n\n\n\nCurrently\, you can find Leigh’s paintings in fine art shows throughout the Southeast and follow her work on Instagram @leighellisart.

Garden Nights provides the setting for a unique date night for couples\, a fun night out for friends\, or a memorable experience for visitors. Each event features a garden staff member highlighting their area of the garden\, followed by a special activity. Your ticket includes light snacks and two beverages. Designed for guests 18+\, Garden Nights is where the growing is just for adults!  \n\n\n\nAugust: Butterflies & Bingo \n\n\n\nLearn about Joe Pye Weed\, which attracts hundreds of butterflies to the garden\, with Emily James\, horticulture manager\, and play bingo in the Heritage Garden. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st-\, 2nd-\, and 3rd-place winners. In case of inclement weather\, this event will be relocated to the Visitor Center and Conservatory.
