January Friends First Friday An Overview of More Than a Half-Century of Experiences

January 12, 9:00 am - 10:30 am

$12 Non-members, $10 Members

Join us as Dr. David C. Coleman, Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus, UGA Odum School of Ecology, shares his experiences including travel to many countries around the world. He will discuss soil structure—leading to a cascade of trophic interactions in soil food webs. For basic and applied ecology, soil porosity, driven by root production and turnover is key to understanding soil processes. Indeed, we can “let the soil work for us” (Elliott and Coleman, 1988). Dr. Coleman says much of the research was collaborative across disciplines, many of the studies international, and quite fascinating. Much of this work was carried out at Colorado State University and UGA. The research included a star-studded cast from Ecology, Microbiology, Soil Science, and USDA labs. Funding was similarly diverse, both Federal, State, and private sources. Copies of Dr. Coleman’s book will be available at half-price ($10) to all attendees. The registration deadline is noon on Jan. 5.
