Riverbanks Botanical Garden Bus Trip

Leave the driving to us and join the Friends of the SBG on a day trip to the Riverbanks Botanical Garden and Zoo. The garden and zoo are adjacent to one another, separated by the Broad River, and joined by a pedestrian walkway.

The botanical garden encompasses 70 acres with ten themed gardens, including an Asian garden, bog garden, dry garden, heritage rose garden, shade garden and walled garden. A new children’s garden, called Waterfall Junction, was opened in 2016.

The zoo is home to more than 2,000 animals representing 350 species from throughout the world. There is an aquatic and reptile complex, a walk-through exhibit of Australian animals, a sea lion pavilion, a large aviary with three themed bird habitats, and of course lions, tigers and bears, elephants and rhinos, just to name a few of the many exotic animals. Most of the animals are showcased in natural habitats.

Both the garden and zoo are easily accessible with paved, level walkways and trams that take visitors from the botanical garden to the zoo. There also are wheelchairs, strollers and motorized carts available for rent at the main entrance.

There are a number of food kiosks and two sit-down restaurants that offer a variety of sandwiches, wraps, pizza, salads and snacks.

We leave at 7:30 am from the State Botanical Garden and return by 6:30 pm.
